Change Car History Entry Category#40

If I accidently log a service entry for an MOT, I’d like to be able to correct it without having to delete the record and re-add it.

Adding support for this might be a little more difficult that it might initially seem.

The data stored in, and connected to each type of Entry in a cars history file is actually quite different for each Entry Type.

Some are more similar than others of course but others are very different (e.g Admin vs Event vs Insurance) - Events will support full image galleries and indeed be sharable between different cars and owners in the future if the user wants to.

Because of this it gives us that very difficult scenario of, what do with do with data which ‘wont fit’ into the other Entry Type if someone wanted to convert it across. Should we just delete it.

In theory we could have a complex system which lets people confirm exactly what they lost and make the conversion but thats actually quite hard to do reliably and i could see many users making mistakes which we couldn’t revert for them.

I’d instead suggest maybe we make it more obvious what type of entry one is adding in instead. Would that be satisfactory?

I guess potentially, it’s a “me” problem. For example, when I’m looking at a reciept for “service and MOT”, how do you file that? I’m starting to break out the Admin/MOT entry for just holding MOT certificate/emission data, whereas if servicing was done at the same time, that becomes a separate entity.
Makes the timeline a little messy but it’s workable.
Just thinking outloud, but would uploaded documents be able to be retained in a pool? So for example, if you did remove an entry and recreate, you could select your document from the unassigned pool rather than have to re-upload?
